February 19th The Dixon Municipal Band and City of Dixon present “Reagan of Illinois” a new musical work by Dr. David Holesinger. Prces range from $20 to $1,00 for 6 box seats at the Historic Dixon theatre.

Hotel Near Oregon IL Stronghold Castle


Stay at the Comfort Inn and Suites while visiting beautiful Stronghold Castle. Stronghold Castle is located in the gorgeous countryside of Oregon Illinois with gorgeous views of Rock River. It is the perfect place to host meeting, a banquet, a seminar, or take a challenge course.

The castle was created by the publisher and editor of the Chicago Daily News, Walter Strong. Walter Strong and his family fell in love with Oregon Illinois when their family began taking vacations near Oregon. After some time, Strong decided it was time to build a beautiful castle for his family to take their vacations each year. The idea for the Stronghold Castle was inspired by European castles and William Hearst’s California home. The architect for the castle was Maurice Webster who was Walter’s wife Josephine’s brother.

Over 300 acres of land was purchased in 1928 for the Strong’s dream summer home and the castle was mostly completed by 1930. The castle has 16 bedrooms, four secret passageways, a pool, tennis courts, and a five story tower. In 1961 the family decided to sell the castle after Walter and his wife Josephine passed away. The Stronghold Center was founded in 1963. Since then many additions have been made to the property accommodate lots of different events and guests.

Today the castle sits on 350 acres of lush landscape and still holds its historical charm. The original intent of the castle also still remains. Once a retreat for the Strong family, it is now a retreat that offers relaxation for all to share in.

There are many activities to enjoy at Stronghold Castle. Take a hike through the woods or tour the castle. Swim in the pool or participate in team building challenge exercises. Host a luncheon or participate in an outdoor learning activity. Breathe the fresh air, gain new knowledge, and relax.

The Icehogs became part of Rockford IL in 1999 when they joined the United Hockey League. Since then, it has been entertaining fans and sent 29 players to the NHL. Some players that are in the NHL that were once Icehogs include Cam Barker, Bryan Bickwell, Corey Crawford, Brandon Segal, and Adam Berti.
